Speech-language pathologists are professionals with Master's-level training in human communication development and disorders, and have expertise in consultation, classroom-based programming, assessment and intervention. In an educational setting, speech-language pathologists help teachers and parents to understand the oral communication needs of children and the direct impact of these needs on academic and social/emotional development. Speech-language pathologists provide assessment in the areas of oral and written language and literacy and work with teachers to develop curriculum-based strategies to address the learning needs of students in the classroom. Speech-language pathologists also provide in-service training for teachers and other professionals and develop resource materials to support teachers, parents and students.
Speech-language pathologists are registered by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
